The project was to build a new care home in the rural setting of Greens Norton, Northamptonshire. Although sites like this don’t cause the problems you might find in a town or city (networks at capacity, issues getting permits to work, traffic management, unaccounted for services on site), it did pose a number of other issues that had to be overcome before the client could even consider moving forward with the project.
Digging 3 trial pits allowed us to confirm depths of services we knew we there as we planned to create a new entrance to the development. These pits prompted us to work with Gigaclear, the rural broadband provider, to divert the telecoms cable running across site.
We arranged for 1x 25mm Water and 1x 80kVA Electric Supply to be used during the construction of the building. All spec for onsite work was provided to the customer with all plans showing service routes and termination points.
In addition to the telecoms diversion, several overhead cables needed diverting as they would create a hazard during the build. Due to changes in design and a required ‘no dig zone’ around the building, we worked with the network to create three versions of the diversion – eventually settling on the correct solution for the client
We decided to utilise the newly laid HV network on site to feed a brand new distribution substation. An LV cable would then run to the kiosk where the supply would terminate.
Due to a lack of sufficient supply in the area, a new water main was proposed that would run 150m up the road next to site. A number of additional services in the footway meant that further trail pits were required here.
This involved submission of the ENA’s most recent G99 form which we populated with details of the solar equipment which was to go on the roof of the building. The DNO used this to assess export capacity in the area and agree for further export onto the network.
