This development sits within a relatively busy part of Nuneaton. An number of industrial buildings sat on the site before which can potentially cause issues with rogue services and ground contamination. Added to that, the local council have notoriously long wait times for permits we knew we would need for trial holes and service disconnections in the street
Permits were applied for early in the process as we knew trial holes and footway disconnections would be necessary here. Two rogue live gas services were found on the site which impeded the groundworks – we arranged for the cutting back of these services to the site boundary (so works could continue) and arranged for the final disconnection to take place in the footway when permits were in place.
Early surveys had indicated that there was a gas main running across the entrance to the proposed site entrance. Trial pits confirmed this to be the case and we arranged for the main to be lowered to an acceptable depth to allow entrance works to go ahead.
The existing substation on site was found to have Japanese Knotweed and needed to be resited. We worked with the client to identify a suitable location and come up with a brick-built design that worked with the design of the main building aesthetically. We also coordinated the legal process to ensure that easements in relation to the substation land and access were in place.
To save on costs, we came to an agreement with the network that we could site our meter housing at the same time at the new substation. This would then allow us to energise the meter housing and run a temporary supply from that. This also meant that when the build was complete, we could quite easily convert the supply to permanent.
